A Cool Head

Keeping head and body together is vital to life. Even in Christianity, keeping “cool heads” is pivotal to the survival of the Christian body. Our leaders are our heads. Though every part of the Christian body is essential to continued sustenance of the whole, the head stands out for me as the most important.

The head accommodates the eyes, which are for seeing. Without sight, the Christian body would be left to grope in such a dark world (Genesis 1:2). Our leaders act as our eyes by guiding and leading us as a body. More often than not, they get to see stuff we don’t and we wonder how.

The ear and nose – which are for smelling and hearing – act as tools of discernment in the Christian body. Discernment’s importance cannot be ignored in the Christian walk. But for discernment, the kingdom of darkness would long have usurped the Kingdom of light in the spiritual war. We are here partly because, somebody “smelled a rat” (2 Cor. 2:11).

The lips are for speaking. In Christendom, we speak to decree (Job 22:28) since we are in a position of authority in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:6). The lips also serve as prophetic channels for the Christian body. God knows our victory in our warfare against the enemy has partly been down to prophecy (1 Timothy 1:18).

So just where would we be without our heads? Ever imagined creatures without heads? But away from that, let’s consider the head of the Church, Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:23). We are mandated to make Christ King of our lives, and not our hobby (Romans 12:1). He needs to be our head and not our leg; coordinating the affairs of our lives and not just a “tool” to be used to get “here” and “there”, to get “this “ and “that.”

But God will only lead those who will follow him. He would only bless that which is given him. And he will only head the lives of those that surrender to him and his will.

God can be your advocate (speaking and interceding for you), “watchman” (discerning and looking out for you), and visionary (doing all the “seeing” for you)! Too good to be true? Make him the Lord of your life and observe what happens.

You want to have a cool head? Choose Jesus.
