Antigua: Saturday and Sunday

Saturday:

The three teams made it to Antigua safely on Thursday and Saturday! Team 1: Marcea, Debbie and Nina. Team 2: Andy, Austin, Ryan and Elizabeth. Team 3: Phil, Jenny and me. Saturday night we settled in our rooms. Two awesome kids named Chesley and Kiandra greeted us delightfully. You wouldn’t believe this but for dinner that night we ate KFC  in the town of Gray’s Farm. Antigua is a bit Americanized.

Sunday (Day 1):

As soon as the alarm rang, Ryan, Austin and I walked to a beach to do a devotional for our first morning in Antigua. We found a neat shortcut to Coconut Beach, where we washed our feet in shore water and snapped candid photos. Opening our mission devotions, we began praying and reading Scripture. When we walked back to the inn, we encountered a bull. But Ryan prayed and the bull walked away! I guess that was our first big test from God. It was really funny.

Afterwards, everyone showered up and met for breakfast. We went around the table and shared our testimonies of how we came to Christ. This was a great way for the team to get to know one another. Andy, the worship pastor, prepped us for the kids bible songs and we danced on the patio. We made sandwiches and enjoyed each other’s company, all the while being excited for Vacation Bible School!

Then Marcea and two kids staying at the inn,  Chesley and Kiandra, and I went to the market to get some water. Down  here church starts at 4pm, so off we went. A lady called Mae was the pastor of the church we attended, which was mostly filled by Antigen children. The kids sang many songs, three people on our team – including myself – shared our testimonies, and Andy preached a word for the congregation.

When church ended, we talked with all the kids and they are amazingly bright. Ryan ran outside to get the children playing Simon Says. Team got about a hundred hugs from all the kids and we headed to to a restaurant with Mae, Chesley and Kiandra. Lastly we headed back to the inn and prepared for Monday, which is the first day of VBS. So far everything is going so well.
Prayer requests:

Team Unity, Preparation, Confidence, Energy, Reaching out to Chesley and Kiandra, and a great start to VBS.
